In response to Kristin Loken's letter concerning the Constitution Party's Apple Harvest Festival parade float, let's set the record straight regarding the crowd's opinion. As can be clearly seen in video taken from the "NSA is Watching" cameras that were on both sides of the float, the crowd was happy, cheering, clapping and waving as the Obama head float passed by. When this float was at the Elkins Forest Festival two weeks earlier, children and families had a great time playing in front of it in the park and trying to catch the smoke rings.

Contrary to Ms. Loken's biased statements, there were no faces that "fell," and it was not a "horrible" experience. Remember, it is a matter of public record that the White House occupant is, in fact, a smoker. All of the audio clips that played along with it were direct quotes spoken over the past five years by Mr. Obama himself. How could Barack Obama's own words be considered "racist" or "negative" as Ms. Loken claims? For those who were paying attention, the float featured signs with clear references to Article II of the United States Constitution - "insulting" only to those who choose to deliberately ignore the presidential ineligibility issue.

As far as whether this float was appropriate for the festival, one only has to look at the 12-minute mark of the first video where a parade judge runs up to it and says "I like your float." The only "disgusting display" that occurred was the rant of foul language that was levied at U.S. Senate candidate Phil Hudok ( www.hudok.com) and in the presence of the young daughter of a Constitution Party member as heard at the 12:12 minute mark of the video. Clearly it is Democrats like this crude person who "owe an apology to the community."

The Constitution Party would like to take this opportunity to thank the parade organizers and spectators for an otherwise excellent event. More information on the party can be found at cpwva.org.

We are not a people worthy of our inheritance thus we are losing them. Much like fools and their freedoms soon part. But gee, posterity will know we sure argued for them. But what will that matter as its erased?

The Constitution no longer exists, it exists for one purpose, there is none. The POTUS has manipulated the Constitution and violated it on many occassions, it will be nice when this Kenyan is out of office. He is a hater of Christianity, supporting and getting members of the Muslim Brotherhood into offices of control. His refusal to support the People's views is ignorant, he is a disgrace. A lying piece of crap.

Having the first amendment right to speak your mind AND THEN choosing the appropriate time and manner of conveying "your mind" are two completely different things.

I support the right to free speech. However, I think this venue and manner of negative speech was in poor taste.

Why not show the benefits of the Constitution Party or constitutional government instead at a light-hearted, community parade?

It doesn't matter whether the float was mocking Obama or Bush, either would be INAPPROPRIATE in the venue of the Apple Harvest Festival.

This is not a free speech question. The parade organizers have a right, and it appears a necessary responsibility, to prescribe and enforce the general theme of the parade. If not, I hope they're ready for dueling offensive floats in future parades.

And for the record, I do not recognize Obama as my President, he may be the president of our Country, but he is and never will be recognized in my Family as someone who is President and is treated as said failure and disgrace to the Constitution. He has treated the Legal Citizen and Christians in the country as second rate citizens putting illegal aliens above the law and treating Christians with hate. If anyone is a racist, its Obama. He has an approval rating below 40 percent, forced an unconstitutional law on us with his manipulations of ACA and greasy palm trick with the Supreme Court judges who lean to the left. Has forced millions off their current healthcare and abortions under his healthcare, lack of healthcare for elderly, forcing people who need medical devices to pay taxes on it. Any of you who disagree with the float are those who are against freedom of speech, this has been going on in Parades from the get go of the establishment of our Government, just go back and look at some of the fliers from opposition parties that were plastered all over the papers back then and people running around with signs opposing an oppresive government. Get with the times people, if you don't like, tough, but if it were a Republican in office as President, like all you liberals would thoroughly enjoy bashing, like you did Bush with your signs in Parades, you must also be a hypocrite. This is no different than the extreme left in parades running around in said parades with Signs against Bush. This type of freedom of speech took place during the Vietnam War. Just because the POTUS is Black, you consider anything displayed about this Muslim Brotherhood supporter as Racist. Get with it. Stop being hypocrites. I applaud the Constitution Party for showing people the float.

Last Saturday I had the honor of riding in the Apple Harvest parade. Directly behind us was the Constitution Party float carrying huge head of President Obama with smoke coming out of the mouth. As we drove through the streets of Martinsburg I watched people clapping and dancing to our music ("Take Me Home, Country Roads") and then watched their faces fall as the Constitution Party float came before them.

It was horrible. There were, of course, many children in the audience. The Apple Harvest parade has always been a day of fun and celebration for the whole community.

There should be no place for racist, negative statements like that of the Constitution Party.

Their float was an insult to the Apple Harvest festival, to the other participants in the parade, and to the good people of Martinsburg and Berkeley County who had come to enjoy the day with their friends and family.

I hope that the parade organizers find ways to guard against such a disgusting display ever happening again. And I think the Constitution Party owes an apology to the community.

You might say it because you want to improve things. Sounds like you want to change things as well.

I assume you love America. Do you love Elizabeth Warren? Do you love people you think are like me, not that you really know me. If we had a conversion, a real sharing and listening, we would probably discover there are some things we agree on and others that we don't. And she and I are just as much a part America as you are.

I make judgements. Sometimes a judgement I make turns out wrong, or partly wrong, but I can't find that out unless a talk with people, and listen, and hopefully they listen to me. I think it was Ben Franklin who said, "We'll all hang together or we'll all hang separately." We are in this together.

How would I have refuted myself? And why the sarcasm "rappy50." Sarcasm is easy. I could write Moronitarian. Where would that get us. Nowhere.

Yeh, wish you would have continued because I think you would have eventually refuted yourself. President Barry said he wanted fundamental change for this nation. Now, you dont say that unless you hate what was. Now, with his wife saying she wasnt proud of our nation until he was handed the presidency goes against your happy thoughts about everyone wanting whats best. The reality is that not everyone does. The chaos only gets worse in our society as the nonjudgmentalism cult continues to grow.

I am dismayed by the hostility expressed in some of the comments. Most Americans want what is best for the country. There is, of course, disagreement as to what that is. Anyone might be in part or completely wrong given a particular issue. Being wrong is OK. And most solutions are not perfect. It doesn’t make you un-American, or a traitor or evil or even stupid. I think that’s a good thing to keep in mind. We are all in it together. The problems we face are difficult to solve. We are all fallible, so input from each of us is valuable. If the people we disagree with are seen as the enemy, then we are already defeated. An unwillingness to converse, discuss, and question our own beliefs from time to time is ineffective and certainly not brave.

I think the relevant question is what kind of float is and isn't allowed in the parade. Are there restrictions and are they consistently enforced. When I saw the Constitution Party Float and other political floats, the Pro-life float, the floats that promoted Christian Churches, I wondered if a Pro-choice float, or a float that attacked Ted Cruz, or a float from a Synagogue, a Mosque, Wiccans or Humanists would have been permitted. If the answer to that question is "yes," then I have nothing to complain about, but if there are limits based on point of view, I think the organizers of the parade should rethink that policy. Democracy requires a free exchange of ideas. Even those ideas a person disagrees with.

Political speech, which includes satirizing political figures,is APPROPRIATE at any public venue. To be able to do so is part of why this country was founded. So sorry that Obama's supporters missed a chance to enter a float showing him wearing his halo,or shovelling out free money, or protecting us by grabbing the guns of law-abiding citizens.

Obama happens to be a light-brown color. If you display a satirical image of a political person who happens to be of a paler color, does that mean that you have a racist message of hate for paler-colored persons? Screaming , "racist" is a convenient way to distract people from the issues at hand. Would Obama's supporters here care to stick to the point and make the case that Obama's lies played by the float were not lies,or were in some other way justified?

You seem to be overlooking the fact that the letter writer's point is not that the teabaggers should be denied the right to embarrass themselves with their offensive hate speech, but that this sort of thing was unfortunate and inappropriate in the context of the apple harvest festival, a public celebration.

What's the big deal? The float was depicting something that Barry Soetoro himself wrote in his self-promoting book. He is the one who claimed that he smoked dope in his younger days. Maybe the float was just a tribute to our fearless leader. On the other hand, maybe the float's message was: You have to be smoking something if you actually believe the promises of "This will be the most transparent, non-divisive administration in history" and "If you like your doctor and your insurance plan, you can keep it" and "I won't rest until the YouTube video-reacting flash mob of Benghazi is brought to justice."

Theyve been calling every president an -ism or -phobe and then we allow Barry to get elected _-3 white votes FOR Barry for every 1 black vote for him--and its still cries of racism. Gee, I cant wait to see the tolerance for minorities from the minorities. Because I cant find one nation where they do. Cheers

It would be nice if they would just eliminate political parties from the parade all together.

Maybe the morons who made the float didn't mean it as racist but the many black people who live along the parade route obviously took it that way. This parade is supposed to be positive and their float was definitely negative and not appropriate. I agree with her that the parade people should have guidelines. Bet the response from those who think it was just fine would have been different if a float with Bush's mass destruction lies had "floated" by when he was president. They would have yelled treason just like they did when anybody criticized him and his sidekick Cheney.

Agreeing with BeepBeep this time, even if it seems like this float was likely in poor taste.

Although, it would seem that President Obama gives about as much respect to the American people--as this float did to him--by his constant lying and lack of leadership.

There's never a better time than now for a float like this one. Your racist comment was just ridiculous. Jsst because the occupier of the White House is black, doesn't mean that negative comments concerning him is racist. Our sorry leader's head with a smoking mouth is just a symbol that if his lips are moving, he's lying. If you haven't figured that out by now, well...

Still not sure how this float was "Racist" and just so you know it "delighted" my kids to see it more than it did when they saw your float.

Everyone has their own opinion and political beliefs, just because you dont like mine and our president is black and i am white dosent make me racist.

Well said. Because for a second it sounded like all them folks that are so darn over protective of ole Barry. Now stand proud Mr ACLU. Because it our turn to satirise. Cheers

When liberals babble and cry about any form of speech just remember how they and the ACLU crowd made burning of our soldiers flags a form of speech. Yeh, cheers to you too. Now, deal with it time.

Hollywood actor Chris Noth recent tweet reaction to the gubment shutdown: “Highest level of racism was shown yesterday when Republicans forced a shutdown of our government. Mostly because our President is black...Every tea party member should be horsewhipped."

See how the leftists never walk the walk. Now remember this when they babble and growl about we AMERICANS, the Old School kind, demonstrating the very speech and speech forms the leftists helped excuse.

 From Martinsburg:

Bigotry has no place in the Apple Harvest Parade. The float with the smoking Obama head shocked my little girls into tears and we went inside.

http://www.journal-news.net/page/content.detail/id/600236/Journal-Junction-for-October-22.html?nav=5043

 From Shepherdstown:

In response to the Martinsburg caller who said bigotry has no place in the Apple Harvest Parade: How is it bigotry when President Obama does or did smoke? If that's all it takes to frighten and shock you and your little girls, you are pathetic!

 From Berkeley County:

How could the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival allow such an offensive float/display in its parade? Someone should be held responsible. He is our sitting president. For them to make fun of him, someone should be responsible. This is not acceptable to our community to make fun of our president.

 From Martinsburg:

The Constitutional Party float made a caricature of an unpopular president, blowing smoke, but there was no bigotry there. Please tell your children that every U.S. president has been caricatured - from Lincoln's big jaw and mole, to Clinton's bulbous nose, to George Bush's big ears. Obama was blowing smoke, because he has shown himself to be secretive, elusive and misleading. That's not bigotry.

http://www.journal-news.net/page/content.detail/id/600256/Journal-Junction-for-October-23.html?nav=5043

 From Hedgesville:

Regarding the parade float - the parade was a celebration of the season and not the appropriate venue for a political statement. The float was in poor taste regardless of one's opinion of the current president and totally out of place. Parade organizers should ensure the guidelines do not allow such displays, pure and simple. 'Nuff said.

 From Charles Town:

For eight years, Democrats made fun of Bush. Suddenly the president is off-limits even though the world laughs at him. This man is tearing our nation apart by his divisiveness and lies without accountability.

From Martinsburg:

I wasn't able to make it to the parade on Saturday, but I would certainly like to know who sponsored the float with the smoking Obama head, and what their intentions were.

 From Martinsburg:

They were talking about the Obama head float, I don't know what they saw, but I wonder what he was smoking? And about the little girl crying, he's got everybody crying over this Obamacare and insurance going up.

 From Berkeley County:

I feel the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival was fantastic. As far as the floats of the president, it is freedom of speech. I think the Apple Harvest Festival should delete all politicians from the parade. We don't come to parades to see politicians.

http://www.journal-news.net/page/content.detail/id/600292/Journal-Junction-for-October-24.html?nav=5043

 From Inwood:

I'm upset that the Mountain State Apple Harvest parade didn't select the Republicans' President float as the ultimate grand supreme WINNER! Way to go! Also, trying to use a fake story about your kid crying is ridiculous!

 From Inwood:

Making my annual festival visit to Martinsburg this week I was embarrassed and disappointed by the float making fun of our commander-in-chief and our president. This was not the time and place for this kind of juvenile behavior. Backward people with no class and no common sense at all. These folks need to volunteer or something; they must have way too much time on their hands.

http://www.journal-news.net/page/content.detail/id/600349/Journal-Junction-for-October-25.html?nav=5043

 From Berkeley Springs:

This is in reply to the ones complaining about the float in the parade. Evidently they don't watch the news and didn't see what they had done in Germany. They had a parade that had several floats making fun of Obama and Hillary. I've lived to see several presidents come and go; and this one is the most mocked that I have ever seen. Put down your Obama phone and watch the news.

 From Martinsburg:

For your information: The float in the parade last week was sponsored by the Constitution Party/Tea Party. Please don't bring your prejudices and negativity into our community. Let's respect everybody, regardless of whether you agree with them or not, and be civil. This is just another bang on Martinsburg.

http://www.journal-news.net/page/content.detail/id/600529/Journal-Junction-for-October-30.html?nav=5043

 From Martinsburg:

I hope the Obama float is in the Inwood parade. I really enjoyed it in the Apple Harvest Parade. The only reason why people complain about the Obama float is because it told the truth. It was only blowing smoke in Martinsburg. Obama is blowing it all over the country.
