Petitioning Instructions and Hints General instructions for ballot access petition forms: Petition signers must sign a form that is specific to the county in which they are registered to vote. They must also list their physical address and not a P.O. Box. There is very little space on the form, so I suggest that you mark off the word "County" leaving Street Address, City. Experience has shown that with a little practice, a simple approach such as asking, "Could you help me get ballot access for a friend?", works well. Keep it simple and use something that feels comfortable. Note: It used to be that a petition signer lost the ability to vote in the primary election. Unfortunately, some people are not aware that this regulation was struck down when a WVU law professor took it to the State Supreme Court. Instructions for the 2010 petition form: For U.S. House of Representatives, the petition signers must be registered voters form the second congressional district which includes the counties of Berkeley, Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Hampshire, Hardy, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Mason, Morgan, Pendleton, Putnam, Randolph, Roane, Upshur, & Wirt. Instructions for the 2012 petition form: All West Virginia registered voters may sign the 2012 petition form. Third party candidates need a certified total equal to 1% of the number of votes cast for the respective office in the last election. For the Governor's race, 1% plus a comfortable margin will amount to about 10,000 petition signers. I will be posting on this website county petitioner credential forms as I receive them from the county clerks. It is very rare that you will be asked to produce a petitioner credential form. The credential forms are generic and do not include the petitioner's name. Therefore, a printed copy of a county credential form is sufficient. Be part of restoring constitutional government! Please call or email if you have any questions. Phil Hudok 304-335-2826 hudok@hudok.com |
